IGI 2 Covert Strike,
recognized in the field as Project IGI 2, is a strategic shooter computer game
designed by Innerloop Studios and published by Codemasters in 2003. The game is
a stealth-based first-person shooter. It is the sequence to Innerloop's Project
IGI. The primary, published by Eidos Interactive, offered only single-player
play and did not save the game. Covert Strike joined the multiplayer play and
limited save game ability. Chris Ryan, a former Special Air Service operative
famously identified for being the lone successful escape of Bravo Two Zero,
worked as a consultant to the game.
The game's plot emphasizes a rogue Chinese General, Wu Xing as the main antagonist. Xing organizes various events to get electromagnetic pulse weapons on a space the missile that he has start control over. The game's warrior, David Jones, an assistant working for the Institute for Geotechnical Intelligence and a former British SAS worker was sent to the Carpathian mountains to collect a set of prototype EMP chips seized by a group of Russian mafia from a high-tech US building. Later his mission director commands him to go to collect the left EMP chips so that the IGI researchers can start large-scale analysis on the chips to discover their usage for which the Russian mafia kept them.
While his former pilot and mission supervisor had left and have taken away the EMP chips with their blueprints. The IGI was not capable to detect their place after the incident but spent enough effort to get an important detail that Phillip White and Robert Quest caught years to infiltrate the IGI gain and that White had made various weapons and army deals by Jach Priboi in Libya. Anya turns as Jone's mission supervisor and Jones sets off to Libya beneath the orders of Senator Lenahan to search for the middle-aged Priboi, who lock-up by the Libyan Intelligence as he was providing weapons to the independent forces, later David finds Priboi, he is used by the Libyan intelligence leader Major Zaleb Said. The two are suddenly transported to a massively defended Libyan prison. While they are being moved, Priboi interrogates him about his goal in discovering him, Jones replies that he is after his former mission director Phillip White and that the IGI knows that White made weapon contracts with him. Priboi then exposes that he made a lot of contracts with White and sold him advanced equipment. His latest plan from Priboi was a high-tech Russian that was waiting for shipment on a remote seaport in the gulf. The shipping papers were in a safe in Priboi's villa which was currently taken over by Major Caleb Said and being used as his base of operations.
After recovering Priboi
and leaving out of the prison, David chooses to go to the villa to get the
news. While going there, David blows the truck's motor in which they departed.
Priboi informed him that he requires to infiltrate the villa by damaging the
security system and bypassing the superior said's guards. He too requires to
get his hard disk which includes all the data for Priboi's activities with
White. Suddenly, later expunging very effort and going by multiple gunfights,
Priboi discovers that the superior said had carried away his papers from the villa
and he then vows furiously to take them back. He tells David to gain control of
his helicopter which is in his airbase not very far from the villa now
controlled by the superior said. They get the helicopter without very
struggling and manage to gun superior said down at one of his camps amidst the
enemy to get the papers back. Upon recovering to his villa, Priboi tells David
that the deal he made with David's former mission director was on Port Bur
Safaga in Egypt and that Robert Quest would be receiving delivery of the plane
in 3 days.
David sets off to the port without delay, where he is told by Anya to discover the Enkranoplan and a box of stolen EMP chips. While seeking the log-books to discover the Ekranoplan, David discovers that Robert Quest and Phillip White were interacting with an unknown country to operate the chips. He is faced by his former pilot in the method who orders his men to throw David in the water with the sewage. David attacks Quest's men and shoots him after a meeting. He then takes the ekranoplan to venture off to a strange country which is later exposed to be the Spratly Islands near China, where, according to Anya, unusual activities are carried out during the time being. After a chain of transactions, David finds his former mission director supporting in secrecy with a Chinese general, whom he discovered out later to be General Wu Xing, who proposes to use the chips to blindfold US intelligence and disable the powers within.
Later David discovers his former mission director Phillip White killed by General Wu Xing himself, as the former involved the latter of killing his colleague Robert Quest, who was killed by David at the Egyptian port. The Wu Xing's hidden weapons lab, David receives to recognize that the General was to start World War 3. He engages in a fight with the gun for Wu Xing and shoots him.
David traces the complete plan location to a long and closely guarded rocket launch pad, where Anya asks him to damage the system quickly before the launch is made. By efforts, David then gains in limiting the rocket from heading towards its programmed goal and blasting somewhere safe. The game is divided into 19 missions. The story is shown in cutscenes, pointed before and after each mission, with animated characters executed in a real-time and prerecorded conversation. Missions have purposes that must be fulfilled before the mission completes.
Sincere approaches are not supported, with stealthy and secret movement giving the player a greater rating, rank, and chance of survival, with the highest achievable ranking entitled David Jones. Many routes exist for every mission, with the most simple and daunting being a loud gunfight, because in every mission Jones is outnumbered. All mission offers a possibility for huge groups of opponents to be bypassed, undiscovered. Special missions also require whole operations to be carried out undetected.
At the start of a different game, a complexity level can be determined, modifying the number of bullets Jones takes before dying, the intelligence of the opponent and gathering AI, and the number of save-games possible.
In a covert operation,
Jones is equipped with lock picks, and safe crackers making him able to forced
entry into any locked room or safe, allowing silent and stealthy entry into
limited areas and buildings and gathering army secrets or private information,
and objects. Remote-controlled CR-4 charges are more convenient for use on
certain ground targets, meaning large structures can be destroyed safely, from
a distance, leaving Jones undetected. Airstrikes can be called for on certain
missions, using the laser designator to pinpoint ground targets for attack.
